Applications are now open for the Simons Foundation Fellows-to-Faculty Program 2027.

The program is designed to help early-career scientists successfully transition from mentored training positions to independent tenure-track faculty careers. Offered through the Autism & Neuroscience division of the Simons Foundation, the initiative aims to nurture new talent and expand the community of researchers contributing to basic science missions.

Selected fellows will receive significant funding, career development support, and mentorship.

Deadline: January 13, 2027 by 12:00 PM (Noon) Eastern Time

Benefits / Award Amount

Successful applicants will receive two levels of support:

1. Faculty Research Award: $200,000 USD per year, including 20% indirect costs, for 3 years.

2. Optional Postdoctoral Award: $110,000 USD per year for up to 2 years, to support the final phase of postdoctoral training before starting a faculty position.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility)

To be eligible for the Fellows-to-Faculty Program, applicants must:

  • Hold a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Currently be in a non-independent, mentored research training position in a faculty member’s lab. This includes postdoctoral positions and physician-scientist research fellowship positions.
  • Not have accepted a formal offer for a tenure-track faculty position or equivalent before receiving the award notification.
  • Not hold substantial federal grant funding as a Principal Investigator (PI), such as an NIH R01 grant or other PI-level faculty funding like SFARI Pilot Award.
  • Not hold other career development awards that support transition to an independent research career at the time of application or at the same time as this award.
  • Not exceed the resubmission limit. You can only apply for a maximum of 2 years. You are allowed to apply to more than one science area per year. This rule also applies to its predecessor programs: SFARI Bridge to Independence Award, SCGB Transition to Independence Award, and SCPAB Transition to Independence Award.

Citizenship: There is no citizenship requirement. Scientists of all nationalities are welcome to apply.
