Applications are now open for the Yenching Academy of Peking University Scholarship 2027 – a fully funded, interdisciplinary Master’s in China Studies at one of China’s top universities.

The Academy enrolls approximately 120 new scholars every year, with 75% international students. If you have a Bachelor’s degree in any field and strong leadership potential, this is your chance to study, live, and learn in Beijing.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

All admitted Yenching Scholars receive the Yenching Fellowship which covers:

Full tuition fees for the program
Accommodation at Yenching Academy, Peking University campus (Year 1 guaranteed)
Monthly stipend for living expenses
One round-trip travel allowance from home country to Beijing
Basic medical insurance
Field study and research expenses

Second-year funding is available if you maintain good academic standing and remain in Beijing.

Research Areas (6 Tracks)

You will be enrolled in MA in China Studies but you can specialize in:

Economics and Management
Politics and International Relations
Law and Society
Philosophy and Religion
History and Archaeology
Literature and Culture

No prior knowledge of Chinese is required – courses are taught in English and Chinese language courses are provided.

Who Is Eligible?

Applicants should have:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in any field, or currently enrolled with expected graduation by August 2027
An outstanding academic record
Strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China
A record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential
English proficiency
Peking University does NOT allow students to be enrolled in other degree programs while at Yenching

English Proficiency Requirements (Important)

IELTS (Academic): Overall 7.0
TOEFL (iBT): Overall 100
Cambridge English Scale (Advanced): Overall 185
CET 6: Overall 600
TEM 4: Pass level “良好” or above

Key Rules:

Tests must be taken after September 1, 2025
NOT accepted: TOEFL MyBest Scores, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, IELTS Indicator, IELTS Online, IELTS One Skill Retake
For IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge – scores must be sent directly from test center to Yenching Academy. For TOEFL use code: C488. Choose “Yenching Academy of Peking University” as recipient when booking.
International applicants whose native language is English OR who graduated from an English-taught degree (undergraduate or above) are exempted.
Applicants from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan (HMT) MUST provide English test report even if they studied in English. If not provided, they must take English as Second Language after enrollment at Peking University.
For Mainland China applicants, English test report is compulsory.
